The Call of Duty series is well-known for popularising the ability to level and rank up your player in the context of a multiplayer first-person shooter in an effort to unlock new abilities and make yourself a more effective fighting machine.
In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, this levelling system has been extended to the weapons of the game, too.
With Weapon Proficiencies in Modern Warfare 3, the more you use the gun of your choice, the more options you’ll unlock in order to make that weapon more powerful and more… well, proficient at the task of shooting down your enemies.
In this latest multiplayer briefing video diary, developers from Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games discuss Weapon Proficiencies in depth, talking about how you’ll unlock extra options for your guns, what these options are and how you’ll use them, while also mentioning a few of the new weapons you’ll have access to in Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer:

Comments:
the game looks good, but i just have a feeling they took alot of stuff from BF. The ranking up of the weapons and the player. but maybe it's just me
I think weapon customisation is the in thing now giving player more freedom, with BF being the fore runner in this.....i have a feeling that the new ghost recon will blow us away with this though from what i saw at RAGE its going to be mind blowing
It's an awesome new way to enrich our range of customisations and basically tailor the game to the way we play, agreed. I like the way it's implemented in BF3, but there's a chance that it might be a little deeper in MW3 (from what I've seen and heard of the two games).
We shall see. ;)
