It was always a foregone conclusion that Battlefield 3 would dominate the charts around the world on launch, but publisher EA has never-the-less confirmed that the shooter is on its way to sales victory with the reveal that 10 million units of the game have shipped out worldwide.
During an investor conference call yesterday, EA CEO John Riccitiello announced the news, saying that these units were made available to retailers in preparation for the launch week of Battlefield 3.
In addition, Riccitiello revealed that certain retailers have already re-ordered supplies of the game to help keep shelves stocked and ready for consumers, and while exact sales figures aren’t forthcoming just yet, actual sell-through of this initial 10 million allocation has been “strong,” according to the CEO.
To put this number into perspective, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which released in March 2010, has ‘only’ shipped 11 million units to date.
EA COO Peter Moore added that this is “the biggest one-day shipment the company has ever done,” and roughly twice as much as Medal of Honor in 2010.

I'm so happy that i got one of those 10million shipped....The game is going to be awesome and i believe its going to sell a lot more than ever before. Its going to be a big number to beat.
As you point out, shipped is not the same as sold, it's more of a factor of your production capacity than your demand. That said, I'm sure BF3 will sell incredibly well, although it will probably be outsold by MW3 due to a brand that is stronger in the mainstream.
Definitely, but the fact that EA has managed to inject that many units into retailers around the world is quite an achievement - shows that the shops are excited to sell Battlefield, which more often than not results in a bigger push and therefore more sales. That 10 million will be sold, no doubt, even if it takes until the holidays to do it.
And yes, Modern Warfare 3 will sell more, agreed. ;)
I think it will be a big surprise if MW3 doesn't sell more then BF3....but only time will tell. (I can only hope BF3 sells more, BF3 Fan) ;)
Modern warfare is and will always be hyped to the top of Mount Everest but when you play the game you find that it only reaches the top of Table mountain but that is enough for my to buy it later in November. Table mountain is still high enough for me
thats a yummy number....opti got msg alert >;D
