The Metal Gear Solid series has been one of the best reasons to own a PlayStation system ever since the first game made its debut back in 1998. Although various entries in the franchise were released on PC and Xbox, games like Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker remained exclusive to the PS2 and PSP respectively.
That’s all about to change as the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection sneaks its way onto both PS3 and Xbox 360 in the coming months, with a PS Vita release to follow at some stage next year. The compilation includes remastered versions of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. As a special bonus you’ll also get untouched versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake - the first two games in the ‘Metal Gear’ series.
Konami recently dated the PAL version of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for February 3rd 2012. The game is still scheduled to be released next month in North America on November 8th.
The delay between the two versions is likely due to the extra localisation time required for the European release. During a recent Kojima Productions podcast, some of the staff working on the project said certain lines of dialogue during tutorial sequences had to be rerecorded for the Xbox 360 version due to the buttons having different names. When you factor in the number of European languages the game will support, it begins to make sense why the PAL version requires a few more months to complete.
