The first images of a new and upcoming 3DS peripheral have recently been released, and it’s a bit of a head-scratcher.
The official Mario Kart steering wheel peripheral will attach to your 3DS, and using the handheld’s motion-sensing capabilities, you’ll be able to tilt the device side-to-side to ‘steer’ your kart through the circuits of Mario Kart 7.
The problem is, as you steer, and therefore tilt the peripheral and the 3DS itself, the entire screen is going to move which will probably make seeing the game’s action a little difficult… and forget about turning on stereo 3D for the game!
Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe this 3DS steering wheel peripheral works really well in practice, but conceptually it’s a bit of a peculiar addition to the 3DS family.
The add-on is being created by official Nintendo product licensee Hori, and in Japan the wheel will cost ¥1 280 (roughly $17) and will become available alongside Mario Kart 7 in the country on December 1st. No word yet about availability outside of Japan just yet.

Ok, that is just weird. I can see 'n guy sitting at the mall tilting his head left and right and going all drunk with the 3D turned on. Might even be fun......but i need to get a 3DS first.
Yeah, I don't see myself tilting my head with the screen either. ;)
Like I said, maybe it works in practice - I've no idea - but it's still kind of a bizarre peripheral.
This is kind of strange, I would love to test it out though!
some people will think "why POItjie tilting his head like that" other guy= "i dont know...guess he lost it" hahahaha :)
@Fletbed you don't know how close you are to the truth there......i think i lost it like ages. would like to test it out.
LOL really. I dont see this working unless you want to look like a total fool. Also if your 3D is activated it will mean you will be forced to turn your head with the screen otherwise the #d wont be visible. But if you disable the 3D i can see it working but you will still have to move you head like an idiot. Upside...at least they are trying new things
