If you thought that Batman: Arkham City would be a critical and commercial smash hit following its release last week… you would be very correct.
Warner Bros. Interactive has just announced that Rocksteady Studios’ latest Batman action adventure title has gone on to sell over four million units during its first week on sale.
The most precise number offered by Warner is a total of 4.6 million units in sales, worldwide, which by anyone’s standards is an enormous accomplishment.
This number represents a doubling of sales for Batman: Arkham Asylum during a similar timeframe and places Batman: Arkham City solidly in the running for top-selling title of 2011.
Warner Bros. Interactive additionally revealed that Batman: Arkham City is currently the highest-rated PS3 and Xbox 360 game of 2011, according to review score aggregator Metacritic, standing at 96 and 95 percent respectively
Game Director at Rocksteady Studios Sefton Hill said of the achievement:
“The true test for any game is what the players think and we have been thrilled by their reaction to Batman: Arkham City. The team at Rocksteady put every ounce of effort into making the best Batman experience we possibly could, so we are overwhelmed by the incredible feedback from the community.”

Comments:
Very good job to Rocksteady Studios. I wish i could buy the game to push that number up a bit more, I'm interested to see how many units Battlefield 3 and uncharted 3 will sell. Even how many MW3 will sell. Keep up the good work.
I still maintain that Modern Warfare 3 will outsell every other game releasing this year, in day-one sales, week-one sales, and end-of-year sales.
Uncharted 3 probably won't set the sales charts on fire due to its single-platform nature, but it'll do well for itself - the franchise has never been an initial big-seller, but seems content to slowly accumulate sales (and fans ;) ) instead.
Battlefield 3 will do a few million more than Batman, I'm guessing.
There are going to be some big numbers thrown about before the year is out!
I agree. I think Battlefield 3 will sell a hectic bunch of copies. I'm so glad I'm going to be part of the battle. if you think about it, if every BETA gamer buys a copy, then it will be double the sales of Batman.
Like you say, Uncharted has the single console thing that's its downfall.
And MW3, just the name Call of Duty will help it sell millions of copies.
R 500 x 4 000 000 = R 2 000 000 000
in other words a house full of moola...
Well done Warner Bros and Rocksteady, those figures are excellent! It's going to be a very interesting few weeks once Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3 and Uncharted 3 go on sale - can't wait to see how those perform in week one.
This tells us all one thing... Dont mess with the big bad bat. Not surprised on this one seeing that the previous game was a huge success. Sad thing is that MW3 will outsell all games this year. Not because it will be the best game of the year because of all the COD fans out there.
To be honest, I don't find this hard to believe. The game is brilliant!
