There was a lot of grumbling about the recently-concluded Battlefield 3 multiplayer beta as players the world over got to go hands-on with an early slice of the game’s competitive online component, some of whom didn’t think much of what they saw due to a myriad of issues.
DICE has gone on to confirm that what we played in the beta was an earlier version of the game and doesn’t represent the final quality of the title, and some of our top issues have already been addressed in the game that will be releasing over the week of October 25th.
To inspire confidence in Battlefield 3 even further, Tommy Rydling at DICE has posted on the PlayStation Blogs to discuss four additional ways the Battlefield 3 beta has helped the final product. After speaking about the “crazy numbers” that the beta enjoyed, with over eight million gamers participating in the test, Ryding continued:
“But before I leave you, here is a short selection of just some of the hundreds of changes and additions we are making to the game before launch, as a direct result of your feedback in the Open Beta:”
Improved Squad Functionality
“There will be improved squad functionality in the retail game (including but not limited to): the ability to create squads prior to launching into a game, sticking with your squad when joining a game and continuing together through future games (if team balance on the server allows it), inviting friends to a squad, and changing squads once in game.”
More Accessible Settings Menu
“The ability to modify your settings via the deploy screen has been added into the retail game.”
Improved Kill Cam
“In the Open Beta, the Kill Cam would sometimes behave erratically. This has been fixed for the launch of the retail game.”
Netcode Optimization
“The netcode is one of the many things that we tested as part of the Open Beta and it was not necessarily reflective of the final retail game. The DICE team appreciates, and has heard, the feedback you’ve provided and is further optimizing online play.”
Great improvements, I’m sure you’ll agree!

I so can't wait for this game. one more week to go. When i saw another BF3 story i got really excited. There is some good changes. Glad they taking the beta into account to make the Final product even better.
On the killcam, me and smuroh found out one can switch that function off. And another good thing is when you a medic you can drag a fallen team mate and revive him behind cover.
I have to say, I'm liking all the Battlefield 3 artwork on the site. its amps us up even more.
@POItjie i hope they add the feature of in game recording like HALO that would be pretty cool.
The latest thing i found out was that, allot of ppl were saying that the console version would be standard-def, but what dice have done is add an extra DVD which contains the textures to allow 360 users to have the same quality as the PC users you just install it to your HDD, which to me is pretty cool, its something new to 360 and i think it will push the boundriesthat much more on next gen.
I hope so too, we had some great matches in Bad Company 2 that would have been a massive hit on youtube. they should bring that feature into more games.
So happy about the High Res textures pack they including for Battlefield 3, will make blowing up stuff alot more fun. See you all on the battlefield next week friday.
ID did the same for Rage but man that game has got texture lag, everytime you turn around the textures are still loading and everything is blurry upclose. The looks awesome but stupid textures loading.
I havent played Rage yet, was planning on doing that on the weekend. But i've had texture issues in Assassins Creed 2 once, everything when poly texture and looked really bad. but it fixed it self. still enjoy the game.
I bought AC2 back in April only played about 10% and haven't played it again. There is nothing wrong with the game but bought to much games in a short amount of time and now it looks like i will never finish it because of ARKHAM CITY,BATTLEFIELD3,MODERN WARFARE 3 and maybe HALO. Sooorrryyyy Ezio please spare my life!!!
i found that a LOT of Unreal powered games have the same texture pop-up issues, and then you realise it is just some lazy developers who messed up. great games like Mass Effect 2 runs on Unreal and has virtually zero texture pop-ups.
but then again its easy to sit here as an end user and complain about these things when we dont actually know just how hard it is to achieve smooth game engines... sigh
Mass effect 1 had the same issue texture pop-up and thanks heaven they it was gone in ME2. ID did say they are using Rage as a stepping stone to test there engine and that Doom 4 will be the true Tech 5 engine game. So lets wait for another 5 years for that game on Xbox 720 or whatever the name's going to be.
