According to a report on industry site Develop, ‘trusted sources’ have confirmed that several of Sony Computer Entertainment’s internal studios are currently working on games for the company’s PlayStation 4.
While it’s claimed that work on PlayStation 3, Move and PS Vita games will remain the focus of Sony’s internal studio work ‘for years,’ preliminary work on PlayStation 4 games has already begun.
A few PS4 game projects are currently in the very early stages of development, but it’s currently unknown which of Sony’s studios are involved in these projects.
The full report can be read on Develop, but that’s the long and short of it.
We’ve seen rumours and reports of a supposedly ‘in production’ PlayStation 4 for some time now, with industry experts pointing to a 2014 release for Sony’s next home console.
Would a new game console really benefit gamers, or even game developers, when games available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are already so extraordinary? Would an extra layer of visual fidelity really add that much more enjoyment to our games? Or will console manufacturers instead choose to focus on next-generation media delivery and social connectivity with their upcoming hardware?
What do you want in your next-generation consoles?

well this is what i found out, and I'm not going to say where.....The romours started when the big 2011 hacking issue began, there was also a rumour that the PS4 is going to have "Kinect" like technology with it. as they seen how popular it is.
Its actually strange, since the rumours of a Xbox 720 appeared, sony "started" working on a PS4, I think we will see a new Sony console sooner than we think.
I want backwards compatibility…If the PS4 doesn’t support my current library of PS3 games, it will take a very long time for me to be willing to make the switch. My first PS3 had backwards compatibility and of course it got stolen just after they removed it from new SKUs. By that point I already had a good number of PS3 games so I had to go out and re-purchase and was stuck with one without BC.
More USB ports (It would be nice if the USB ports had a separate on/off switch as well so you could charge your controllers without having the system running). BTW I read at http://playstation4.net that PS4 wasn't coming out till 2016 so this is some early news. It would be nice to have a built in 2.4 GHz receiver that would support multiple devices at once so we could eliminate dongles. A smaller chassis to begin with so there is no need for a “slim” model down the road.
I’m sure if I thought about it for a while I could come up with more but most things will just automatically be included like improved performance and an upgraded menu system, etc.
wow!....thats all i can say for now....ok back to dreaming about Battlefield 3 :)
Yeah we can expect to hear about it next year at E3 and then it will be released around 2013 I guess with a price tag of hmmmm R8000 lol nah I dunno about the price but yeah it's gonna be something big the PS4 and I'm sure you will be able to play your PS3 games. Cause we all know in about 2 years they will release the slim version that won't lol
I think if sony still aloud PS2 games to work on the pS3 they would have sold alot more games. I think its time they upgrade the XMB system, they need something fresh, i know people always say, if it works why change it. But new and fresh is always a good thing.
POltjie the first PS3 you know the big huge one lol did actually allow you to play your old PS2 games on it which was really awesome and its a real pity the slim line version did'nt as well.
I remember some models of the Phat PS3 could play PS2 games. But i think its sad they took that away. I understand the PSone games as you can just buy them on PSN to play off your harddrive, but there is so many PS2 games people want to play on the PS3 and they don't want to wait for a HD remake to do it.
its because they want to take those PS2 games and do the HD remake to make money out of the poor PS3 owners, they should of just made it backwards compatible
I don't mind them redoing them into HD, but start doing a proper job and not just Push up the pixel Resolution and add more poly counts and Update the sound and the controls. Look at Halo Anniversary, that is an example of how to do a HD remake. you recreate the whole game into a new engine but make it play the exact same as the original. They should bring back Backwards Compatiblity
The PS3 can play PS2 games now, unfortunately only direct download from the PS store and only a few available.
But thats the problem. not everybody wants to buy the same game twice. Its cool for someone like me, as i never owned a PS2. the thing is this topic can go on for days. The bottom line of the whole thing is, sony is trying to make more money out of the PS3 by doing this.
