Warner Bros. has revealed that you’ll need to use a redeemable voucher to play as popular character Catwoman in the upcoming action adventure Batman: Arkham City.
This redeemable voucher will be packed inside every new copy of the game, but gamers will have to pay an additional 800 MS Points/$10 through Xbox LIVE or the PlayStation Network if they buy the game secondhand and want to play as the feline character.
Yep, that’s right ladies and gentlemen, Batman: Arkham City includes a code that can be used just once to unlock Catwoman, almost like an Online Pass of sorts.
Catwoman’s story arc only makes up about 10% of the singleplayer experience, but you can only gain access to certain Riddler side-missions through her unqiue abilities.
Batman: Arkham City will be available on the Xbox 360 and PS3 on the 21st of October across PAL territories.
Thanks to Thanticore for the tip.

Comments:
i was under the impression that you could still play as catwoman in the campaign but couldn't use her in the challenge maps without the online pass. this would make sense as the gameplay sections where you play as her in single player seem to be tightly woven into the campaign. can anyone clarify this?
Warner Bros told Eurogamer that Catwoman is not required to complete the game, so I think she is locked as a character for both the singleplayer campaign and the challenge maps.
My understanding is also that she would be locked out of being playable in single player. People are going to be really angry about this. How can you lock people out of a single player experience in a single player game?
I agree with the online pass, but i disagree with the single player part, if someone buys this game and their Xbox or PS3 is not on the internet then they will never be able to play as Catwoman. Unless they make it you can redeem the code offline or something. We need to support the games New because if we want to see more games in the future then we need to support them. Only the shops benefit from second hand games. that's why I've stopped buying second hand games.
