With options low, Activision recommends closure of Bizarre Creations

Bizarre Creations LogoIn mid-November last year, news emerged that Activision was ‘considering its options’ as far as the future of internal Bizarre Creations was concerned, following the release of a pair of poorly-performing titles created at the studio, namely Blur and James Bond 007: Blood Stone.

At the time, Activision was looking to either sell the developer, consolidate the talent within the studio, or close the company outright.

Now, over two months later and with no serious potential buyers, Activision may be forced to close Bizarre.

According to a report on industry site Develop, only one day after it was revealed that Activision was considering selling Bizarre, multiple parties showed interested in purchasing the studio. As it stands, however, not one potential buyer has followed through.

Speaking to Develop, Activision Worldwide Studios’ chief operating officer Coddy Johnson said:

“[U]nfortunately, so far we’ve not been able to find any interested parties. So we’ve made as a last resort, a recommendation to the team for closure.”

“I want to be clear, our first choice was to try and keep this group together and find a buyer for the studio. This decision comes after a few months of exhausted examination of a number of different options across the board.”

“We of course care about this team,” Johnson added. “We’re offering the studio as many resources as possible, including counselling, external placement services and external career fairs.”

While the ultimate destiny of the Liverpool-based studio still hangs in the balance due to a 90-day consultation period, it seems as though Activision has made up its collective mind, and Bizarre Creations is resigned to its fate.
