Last week, September 14th, Microsoft’s Halo: Reach released in the UK (and around the world) and effortlessly provided the company with its biggest ever launch week in the region, and added up to the 5th biggest launch in the UK ever.
The only games that stood in the way of Halo: Reach’s ability to become the number one biggest launch are Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions), GTA: San Andreas (PS2) and GTA IV (Xbox 360).
According to sales tracking firm Chart Track, Halo: Reach racked up an additional 20 000 units in sales over the launch of Halo 3 in 2007, and managed to sell a whopping 200 000 more than Halo 3: ODST during its launch week in 2009.
Obviously then, Halo: Reach claims the No. 1 spot on the UK Software Chart this week, followed by the top-selling PlayStation Move title, Sports Champions at No. 2, following the launch of Sony’s PlayStation Move line of peripherals and games in the UK this past Friday.
Mafia II (sales down 47%) finally slips down the chart from No. 1 to No. 3, while Toy Story 3 (which features PlayStation Move support) remains at No. 4. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (sales down 11%) leaps up to No. 5 from No. 9, Tom Clancy’s HAWX 2 (sales down 42%) falls to No. 6 from No. 2 last week, and Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days drops from No. 3 to No. 7.
Just Dance (sales down 9%) moves back into the Top Ten by charting at No. 8 from No. 11 last week, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 shifts up to No. 9 from No. 17 thanks to an increase in sales of the PS3 (and PlayStation Move-enabled) version of the title, and Red Dead Redemption is a stubborn non-mover at No. 10.
