Sony has just revealed that the PS3 will support 3D Blu-Ray Disc Playback. This news come from the Sony media briefing currently underway at the Tokyo Game Show.
The 3D support for Blu-ray Disc Playback will be added on the 21st of September (next week!) through system software update 3.50 and will allow you to watch movies in stereoscopic 3D.
The PS3 already supports stereoscopic 3D gaming. In fact you’re already able to play several titles in 3D, such as MotorStorm 3D Rift, WipEout HD and SuperStardust HD. There’s also a whole bunch of new 3D titles currently in development including Killzone 3 and MotorStorm: Apocalypse.
Sony believes that “3D Blu-ray 3D Disc playback, in addition to stereoscopic 3D gaming and stereoscopic photo support will deliver users a total 3D package for PS3 owners.”
More information to follow soon.
