i can't believe sony expect us to purchase games we already have in our collection but can't play on our ps3s because they refuse to include backwards compatibility (reason: more bucks for them). my advice is to play these two games on a ps2 emulator called pcsx2 - if your PC is powerful enough you'll get 60 frames per second and 1080p upscaling. i've played persona 4 on it and it works perfectly. you may need to tweak a few settings to get certain games to run optimally but their facebook page is very helpful in this regard.
Cool idea Tom. I must admit though, console gaming for me is about not having to do complex things to be able to play games. I like the whole switch-on-and-play idea, so I'd rather have the game on my console than on an emu. I hear you about BC, and this (the reselling of PS2 games) is certainly one of the reasons it was removed, but I'm probably still going to get this set. They're both amazing games and deserve every sale they get, so I'd be happy if they could find more success on the PS3.
Tom! How naughty! ;)
And the PS3 HD versions have trophies - yah!
Trophies make it all worth it! ;)
shakes head What kind of attitude is this? " I can't afford it so I'll just steal it". Gimme a break . Video games are a business. I never owned either of these two games so this bundle makes a lot of sense to me. Piracy is stealing and I'll never support that. I don't have any problem paying for games that I want.
This specific situation is tough. We're not discussing direct piracy, only alternate ways to play the games that we've already bought and own.
I bought Shadow of the Colossus for full price, which at the time here in South Africa would have worked out to something like $80... and I didn't even own a PS2! Luckily I got a PS3 with backwards compatibility, and I could play it then, but still at PS2 resolution/speed.
What Tom is suggesting is playing the game that he already owns via an emulator. He supported the developer and Sony, and rightly so - those games are fantastic!
Would it be wrong to play those games again on a PS2 when this bundle releases? Of course not. Is there anything dodgy about playing the games via a PC emulator in the same way?
Yeah, I also understood Tom to mean playing games he had paid for on his PC via emulation. I certainly don't support the idea of playing emulated pirated games, but i don't ethically have a problem with using an emulator to play games one already owns.
Both of these games are now out of print. When books go out of print the publishers often publish them in new editions, with an added foreword, a new cover etc. This is all Sony is doing - they're not making anyone buy the games again, just "reprinting" them for a new audience. I support that idea. Bearded_Warrior, you're in for an amazing experience, both of these games are so different to most and both beautiful in the way they evoke atmosphere.
