Hothead Games has announced that a follow-up to the studio’s DeathSpank action RPG will release next month (September) over the PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE, arriving just two months after the launch of the original title.
Called DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue, the game will become available on September 21st and 22nd for $15 (or 1200 MS Points) on both online distribution services, and will see DeathSpank journey through a massive war-torn land, as well as explore the North Pole and the high seas to locate and destroy six mystical thongs.
Acquiring these most holy relics will “bring peace and harmony to the universe,” apparently.
Here’s a brief story setup:
“A long time ago, nine mystical thongs were planned to bring balance and harmony to the universe, but when marketing got in the way, only six thongs were produced, and the result was disastrous. Granting great power to those who wear them, the thongs corrupted all those they touched - except DeathSpank.”
According to director of game development for Hothead Games, Vlad Ceraldi, the development of Thongs of Virtue is driven by the words “[b]igger, longer, harder,” and for this game Hothead is “taking action RPG fundamentals and adding loads of new creatures, environments, weapons and characters, while continuing to push the envelope with our signature humor.”
You can head on over to the game’s official website to look through some concept art, and also be sure to browse through El33tonline’s previous coverage of the original DeathSpank to see what’s so great about this franchise in-the-making.
