Insomniac Games promised they would reveal a new title at Sony’s media event last night and they didn’t disappoint. Two familiar faces popped on screen, two faces that are no strangers to the action adventure videogame world, Ratchet and Clank.
The reveal was made by none other than Ted Price, President and CEO of Insomniac Games, who announced that players would be able to play as both members of the popular Lombax and robot pair in the new Ratchet & Clank adventure, All 4 One.
But why stop with two? You’ll also be able to team up as the humourous Captain Qwark and even evil Dr Nefarious, with each character having unique skills. This will be the first time in the series that players will be able to explore the Ratchet and Clank universe together, playing together side by side with drop in/drop out play that features a slightly competitive edge.
As mentioned above, up to four players will be able to enjoy the action, both offline and online. According to the press release the game will deliver an “all-new twist to action-adventure gaming while setting the stage for a new story, brought to life with vibrant cinematic visuals.”
The game promises to deliver an “arsenal of over-the-top weapons” and to deliver an “explosive adventure infused with the series’ signature humor and cinematic style,” taking the “franchise to a new level of accessible fun that can be shared with friends and family.”
If you’re wondering why Insomniac Games have been so quite lately, it’s because the studio has undergone a major shift in their thinking – for instance this was the first time in the history of the company that it did not show any games at the E3 expo.
Price explained that the reasoning behind this was two-fold. Firstly, the studio has decided to lengthen the development process of each game to three years and secondly to try and keep the same development teams as far as possible. This will enable them to focus more on tuning and polish of each title.
