When inFamous 2 was officially announced earlier this year, fans of the original game were surely overjoyed to hear that the adventures of superhero Cole McGrath would continue (especially with that ending), and would feature a brand new story, city and improved gameplay and graphics.
Everything you’d want in a sequel, basically.
Except something about the announcement of inFamous 2 didn’t sit well with fans, and it was a big something. The protagonist, Cole, looked different from the first game.
Very different.
Does that fellow on the right look like the Cole McGrath that you know? Didn’t think so, and neither did thousands of vocal gamers. There was an immediate overall negative reaction to the new-look Cole set to star in inFamous 2 – a reaction that seems to have affected developer Sucker Punch, as according to IGN, a “new-new look” Cole is now going to be introduced in the sequel.
From a post by IGN editor Greg Miller:
“While the game is still in development and will continue to change, I was handed a manila envelope this afternoon that contained two images of Cole’s new-new look.
“Due to the stage in development, I can’t tell you exactly what he looks like, but I can tell you he looks more like the person we played as in the original Infamous and less like the man who was in all of those E3 screens and videos.”
The question is, though, is this new-new look Cole the only version of the man that will appear in inFamous 2, or will there be multiple versions? Those of you who finished the original game will know what I’m talking about…
In addition, some new details regarding inFamous 2 have surfaced from Comic Con in San Diego, ‘courtesy’ of Gaming Everything:
- Comic cut-scenes from the first game are returning
- New cut-scene was shown at Comic-Con
- inFamous 2 being made faster because a number of tools from the first game have already been developed
- inFamous 3 not ruled out, but the team says they are still working on the second game
- Not set in stone whether or not saves will carry over
- City in inFamous 2 chosen because they wanted players to recognize the setting easily, and Empire City was mostly destroyed

- Fan feedback have influenced inFamous 2, including people’s opinions of Cole and his voice
- Should be able to move about the city more quickly with new abilities
