Media Create Japanese Hardware Sales for week ending 27 June: DSi LL flies high, Xbox 360 muscles in

DSi LL/XL New Colours SmallNintendo’s DSi LL continues its newfound dominant streak this week in the Japanese hardware sales chart, still riding the wave of popularity thanks to a welcome price drop and the introduction of a range of new colours for the system, managing to sell just over 40 000 units for the week.

The recent release of Love Plus + and Tokimeki Memorial: Girl’s Side 3rd Story for the DS probably didn’t hurt sales either.

As expected, however, sales of the other DS models, the DSi and Lite, are around about flat compared to the week previous, as would-be DS customers look for the better deal.

This also means the sales gap between the DSi LL and the PSP continues to grow. Sony’s handheld stands still at 23 000 units sold for the week, while the PS3 climbs the sales chart with roughly 2 500 more units sold compared to the week previous, and over 19 000 total.

The rest of the chart looks vaguely familiar. The Wii sold 19 000 units, the PS2 sold 1 500 units and the PSPgo sold 845 units this past week… but where’s the Xbox 360? It’s usually right there near the bottom of the chart…

Oh, there it is! In the middle! Thanks to the release of Capcom’s Monster Hunter Frontier Online, the Xbox 360 managed to sell 17 000 units in Japan this week, compared to its usually glum +/- 2000 units. Hurray!
