2K Games has taken the wraps off a Special Edition for Sid Meier’s Civilization V, the next instalment in the popular turn-based strategy franchise. The Special Edition will include collectible items as well as exclusive access to behind-the-scenes content. It will be available for $99.99 on the 21st of September in North America alongside the standard retail edition.
The Special Edition will include a copy of the game, 5 metal figurines based on units from the game, a 2-disc CD soundtrack of game score selections, a ‘Behind-the-Scenes at Firaxis on Civilization V’ DVD as well as a 176 page hardcover art book.
Civilization V promises to take the strategy game series in new directions by introducing hexagon tiles allowing for “deeper strategy, more realistic gameplay and stunning organic landscapes for players to explore as they expand their empire.” The new engine also promises to deliver a “spectacular visual experience” with “fully animated leaders interacting with players from a screen-filling diplomatic scene and speaking in their native language for the first time.”
Players can also look forward to “more exciting and intense” combat as well as firing weapons from behind the frontlines thanks to new ranged bombardment. The game will also feature an “extensive suite of community, modding and multiplayer elements.”
