David Cage confirms reasons for Heavy Rain DLC cancellation, is disappointed for fans

Over E3 2010, Guillame de Fondaumière at game development studio Quantic Dream told videogame consumer site Game Informer that the PlayStation Move version of Heavy Rain is currently the company’s highest priority, as ‘encouraged’ by Sony.

This means that the planned series of Heavy Rain ‘Chronicles’ downloadable content (DLC) has been put on ‘indefinite hold’ until the Move version of the game is complete, but according to de Fondaumière, it’s more than likely that the studio will simply skip the DLC and move onto the next (non-Heavy Rain related) project.

Now, Quantic Dream head honcho David Cage has confirmed these comments, saying that he’s “disappointed for fans we could not finish the story of Heavy Rain the way we intended.”

“Chronicles are on hold as all the team is focused on HR Move,” Cage confirmed to videogame consumer site, NowGamer. “We proposed three episodes about one hour long and being focused on the background of the main characters. I thought fans would really enjoy these episodes because they explained many aspects of HR and why characters are who they are.”

“Unfortunately, Sony preferred to ask us to focus on Move to support the device rather than on creating new content,” Cage continued. “On our side, we did not want to spend more time on HR, which would have meant delaying new projects.

“This is a decision I can understand, and I am certainly happy we had the opportunity to play with this device and to support it, although I am certainly disappointed for fans we could not finish the story of HR the way we intended.”

Unfortunate indeed.

I hate this. I can't decide if I want to cry or punch someone in the face. Maybe I'll do both.

It just really bothers me when games are cut short of greatness because of business decisions or time constraints. Levels and characters being left out of the GOW games due to time constraints; Songs being left out of GH: Metallica; characters not included in SSFIV; and now no new HR dlc. ARGH!
