Bioshock 2 singleplayer DLC announced, teaser trailer and screenshots released

2K Games has announced that a singleplayer focused downloadable content (DLC) pack for Bioshock 2 will become available at the beginning of August, placing you back in the boots of the Big Daddy and tasking you with protecting Little Sisters from “swarms of corrupt Splicers who are hell-bent on stealing the precious ADAM that she gathers from corpses.”

So, more like ‘singleplayer,’ rather than unbridled singleplayer, then…

Entitled the ‘Protector Trials,’ this new DLC is being created by 2K Marin, the same team that brought you the singleplayer portion of Bioshock 2, and will contain six new maps, new Achievements and Trophies, as well as new unlockables. Here’s the skinny:

  • Six new maps: three unique difficulty levels, each based on favorite locales from BioShock 2;
  • New unlockables, including never-before-seen concept art and videos;
  • Seven new Achievements/Trophies.

The pack will become available starting August 3rd on Xbox 360 through Xbox LIVE Marketplace and PC through Games for Windows LIVE, for 400 MS Points on each service, and on the PS3 through the PlayStation Network for $4.99.

Here’s a more fleshed out (and official) description:

“[Protector Trials] contains a series of challenges focused on frantic combat and fast-paced action that are designed to push players’ mastery of weapons and Plasmids. The goal is simple, but tough to achieve: players must keep their Little Sister safe from the intense onslaught of Splicers as she gathers ADAM from corpses.”

2K also promises that further DLC will be available for Bioshock 2 in the future that will extend the singleplayer experience, “providing new insight into the world of Rapture. The next package will expand the narrative, and introduce new tools and new challenges that extend the lore and fiction of the failed utopia under the sea.”
