Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock formally announced, initial tracklist revealed

Now that the cycle is complete, and the game has already been detailed and shown in a teaser trailer, it’s time for Activision to formally announce the existence of Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, the sixth iteration of the series, and if Activision is to believed, the best ever.

While we’ve heard that one before, with over 90 on-disc songs, a new set of gameplay challenges in Quickplay+, a completely redesigned “rock-inspired” guitar controller, and a story-driven Quest Mode, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, at the very least, may well be the most fully-featured Guitar Hero game ever to release.

Chief Operating Officer of Guitar Hero David Haddad enthused:

“Guitar Hero has set the standard for music based gaming and with Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and the game’s all-new Quest Mode, robust and authentic set list, over-the-top challenges and rock-inspired new hardware, we are once again bringing the soul and energy of rock n’ roll to fans around the world.”

Building on top of the solid base that previous Guitar Hero games have built, Warriors of Rock will include features such as the jump in/jump out gameplay of Party Play, competitive modes and the ability to play songs with any combination of guitar, bass, drums and vocals.

A new feature, Quest Mode, appears in Warriors of Rock, which will let players “embark on a larger-than-life, epic rock journey from the stage of CBGBs, the infamous punk-rock club in New York City, to the molten lava fields of rock treachery as eight Guitar Hero characters transform into rock warriors that must join together to use their unique, game-changing powers to help the Demi-God of Rock take down “The Beast” and save rock n’ roll.”

Sounds epic.

The Quickplay+ feature, on the other hand, uses all of the on-disc tracks (and importable songs from Guitar Hero: World Tour and Guitar Hero 5) to test players’ abilities with “13 totally unique gameplay challenges,” providing “literally hundreds of hours of replayability.”

Over 90 tracks will be featured in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, with bands such as Slipknot, Queen, Black Sabbath and Nine Inch Nails contributing songs, while Dave Mustaine of Megadeth wrote and recorded an original track for the game in the form of a little ditty called “Sudden Death.”

I’ll leave you with some words from Gene Simmons of the legendary rock group, KISS, who contributed voice work to Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock:

“The world is a boring place. Come with me, and enter a world populated of Demi-Gods and Beasts. Transform from an everyday person and become the savior of rock and roll.

“It was an honour and privilege to narrate Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, even more so, to voice the Demi God. From the God of Thunder to the Demi-God, how cool is that…”

I'd like to play some of those songs (namely Paranoid, Self-Esteem, and Bohemian Rhapsody), but I'm starting to get burnt out on GH games.

Yeah, I agree. It's time we moved past Children of Bodom and Rammstein now.
