Media Create Japanese Hardware Sales for week ending 20 June: DSi LL sells 30K!

DSi LL/XL New Colours SmallThe DSi LL shoots to the top of the Japanese hardware chart, thanks to the price drop and new colours being released this week. The latest iteration of Nintendo’s handheld sells an impressive 30 183 units, almost three times last week’s rather dismal performance of 11 138 units.

Sales of the Nintendo DS have been stagnant over the past few weeks with would-be purchasers holding out for the new price point for both the DSi and LL and new range of colours (blue, yellow and green) for the DSi LL which were released in Japan on the 19th of June.

The PSP, which normally rules the roost, has to content itself with second place as sales of Sony’s handheld drop slightly this week to 20 929 units. The Wii maintains its position above the PS3 for a second week, selling 19 045 units (down from last week’s 20 588) while the DSi climbs the chart to fourth place, pushing the PS3 even further down the chart. Sales for the DSi also see a welcome boost from the price drop, with sales up roughly 8 000 units to 18 214. The PS3 moves down into fifth place with 17 175 units, much the same as last week’s performance.

The DS Lite is unaffected by the price cut but still sees a marginal sales increase, up approximately 2 000 units to 5 126 units. The Xbox 360 drops to 2 060 units while the PS2 climbs slightly to 1 568 and the PSP go remains in last place with 837 units (although this is marginally better than last week’s 718).
