According to Japanese game magazine Famitsu (and discovered by Kotaku), the excellent looking Nintendo DS game, Ni no Kuni, has made the transition from that handheld console to Sony’s home platform, the PS3.
Currently in the works at animation house Studio Ghibli (Tonari no Totoro/My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away) and game developer Level 5 (Dark Cloud, Professor Layton series), Ni no Kuni puts players in the role of a character named Oliver as he uses a special magic book to take part in battles against monsters during the game.
The game itself is said to ship with a real booklet (to represent the in-game magic book) which will be required to play, and includes hints, a bestiary and other information to help players progress through the adventure.
The DS game would have originally required players to draw symbols on the touchscreen to cast spells, and this mechanic would be a natural fit for the PS3’s PlayStation Move motion controller.
[Update] According to AndriaSang, the DS version of Ni no Kuni: The Another World is still in the works, and should be out in the ‘Fall’ this year in Japan. More information is expected from Level 5 later this week. [End of Update]
