DSi and DSi LL get price drops in Japan, new colours announced too

DSi LL/XL New Colours SmallNintendo Japan has announced that both the DSi and DSi LL (known as the XL everywhere else) will receive significant price drops in the region, as both handheld consoles will see over $25 removed from their usual prices.

Additionally, a brand new range of colour options have been revealed for the DSi LL, and the console will soon be available in Blue, Yellow and Green on June 19th (… in Japan at least).

The DSi LL’s price in Japan will drop down from roughly $220 to $195 (¥20 000 to ¥18 000), while the DSi’s price will fall from $200 to $165 (¥18 900 to ¥15 000).

As for the DS Lite, it’s every retailer for itself, as the recommended retail price of ¥16,800 ($165) is now up to the discretion of resellers.

The new additions to the DSi LL colour range can be seen below:

While these colours and price cuts haven’t officially been announced for any region outside of Japan, retailers in the UK have been given the go-ahead to drop the price of the DS line of handhelds on June 18th:

“In the UK, Nintendo will be reducing the trade price of Nintendo DS Lite and Nintendo DSi to retailers from June 18th 2010,” said a Nintendo spokesperson.

When I first saw that picture I was thinking, "who's flag is that?", lol. Then I thought that if they actually offered DSs with different country's flags as color schemes it would be pretty cool.

Haha!

Yeah, I was a little worried about making that image, because I knew it would cause at least a little confusion, but I thought it looked pretty cool!

If Nintendo gets questions about mixed coloured DS consoles because of it, that's just fine with me!

Lisa

Damn, that's a fine idea....remember, you heard it here first folks!

Dawid

Oliver, you've just created the first country-based DS. That DS would belong to Gabon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Gabon :)

Wayne

Lol, classic. The marketing potential is huge....if the Fifa World Cup was in Japan they would be selling DS flag skins at the robots (traffic lights) instead of flags for your car ;-)

Oliver

Well, Nintendo (and the leadership of Gabon) knows where to contact me, is all I'm saying.
