After a couple of slow week’s things are really heating up on the Japanese software chart with a number of high profile titles debuting in the Top 10 this week. Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 for the NDS is the best-selling new entry for the week ending the 2nd May with a whopping 624 000 copies.

The latest Media Create figures show that Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PSP also debuts strongly at number 2 with 434 000 copies. Meanwhile Super Street Fighter IV for the PS3 is new at number 3 with 81 000 copies, but New Super Mario Bros. Wii manages to beat off the competition from the Xbox 360 version of the game which only sells 28 000 copies to earn fifth place. Despite dropping two places to number 4 this week, New Super Mario Bros. continues to sell well with 44 000 copies shifted this week and life-to-date sales now standing at 3.76 million.

Mario Kart Wii climbs two places to sixth with 28 000 copies while Friend Collection drops three spots to seventh with 27 000 copies. Katekyoo Hitman Reborn! For the DS enters the chart at number 8 with 24 000 copies and NieR Replicant plummets to number 9 with 21 000 copies after debuting at number 1 just last week. It’s interesting to see that the Xbox 360 version also drops drastically to number 29 after debuting quite strongly at number 11 last week. Wii Fit Plus rounds off the Top 10, dropping three places to tenth with 20 000 copies.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction debuts at number 13 while Pro Baseball Spirits 2010, Pokemon Ranger: Tracks of Light and Ys: Oath of Felghana all drop out of the Top 10 this week to numbers 11, 12 and 26 respectively.
