Mass Effect officially slated for the big screen

Everybody’s favourite (Western) space opera action RPG, Mass Effect, is officially slated to find its way onto ‘the big screen’ thanks to a deal with Legendary Pictures, which recently acquired the rights to a film adaptation of the videogame franchise.

Legendary Pictures is of course no strangers to movies related to geek culture after having co-produced films such as The Dark Knight, 300, and Watchmen, as well as Clash of the Titans and The Hangover.

The producers on the planned Mass Effect movie are said to be in talks with screenwriter Mark Protosevich (I am Legend, Thor) to write a screenplay for the movie. Warner Bros. will distribute the movie worldwide, under the terms of a co-production and co-financing agreement with Legendary Pictures.

Executive producers on the Mass Effect film will be Bioware founders Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka, as well as Mass Effect (the game) executive producer Casey Hudson, while producers serving on the project will be Thomas Tull (who has been involved in the games industry before), Jon Jashni and Avi and Ari Arad.

That’s quite a list of talent, and if Bioware’s top men are involved in the project, chances are good (or better at least) that the resultant film won’t suck.
