David Jaffe not working on a Twisted Metal title, as it turns out

David Jaffe For the longest time, it’s been rumoured and speculated that former Sony game designer David Jaffe, he of God of War fame, was working on a full, high definition, next generation version of the explosive car wrecking and racing game, Twisted Metal.

It made sense as Jaffe is the creator of the series after all, and leaked information from his home studio (as he works with Eat Sleep Play in Utah) revealed that he’s currently working on a game that includes cars and action of some sort.

Now, however, Jaffe has finally put these rumours to bed, posting on his Twitter account that he is in fact not working on a Twister Metal game, despite previously being coy about the subject. From the tweet:

“By the way, I WISH we were making a new Twisted Metal. Making game you’ve already worked on is tons easier cuz your core blueprint is already there. This new game design stuff tho? Man, that is hard…reason I’m so stressed these days!”

Let’s hope that puts an end to that, then, so we can continue to look forward to whatever else Jaffe and his team at Eat Sleep Play is working on, which is now likely not to be shown at E3 this year, according to Jaffe.

That breaks my heart to hear that. This is the one big announcement I was hoping for. Oh well, maybe next year.

There may very well be a new Twisted Metal game in development, just not by Jaffe?

I don't know how I feel about Jaffe returning to previous franchises. I think he should continue to try and create new stuff, instead of revisiting older games just for the sake of 'bigger and better.'

That being said, a 'bigger and better' Twisted Metal would be awesome! ;)
