There’s no stopping EA Sports’ FIFA World Cup South Africa ahead of the real world competition in South Africa next month, as the game based on the event sits at the top of Chart Track’s UK Software Sales Chart for the third week in a row, despite a 42% drop is sales since last week.
The excellent Alan Wake, a debut title, appears at No. 2 on the chart (only 1000 units in sales behind FIFA World Cup) in its first week on sale in the UK – impressive considering it only showed up in stores on Friday and had two days to make an impression on the sales ranking. Also, it’s only available on a single platform, the Xbox 360.
Another debut title, Lost Planet 2, shows up at No. 3, only with the advantage of a few extra days of ‘on the shelf’ time and an extra platform to juice up sales in the PlayStation 3.
UK Chart crusher Just Dance (sales down 19%) is temporarily relegated to No. 4 (it’ll be back) from No. 2 on the chart last week, as yet another new title, Skate 3, shows up at No. 5 on the chart (available on both the Xbox 360 and PS3).
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (sales up 5%) hangs in there at No. 6, down from No. 5 last week, but still ahead of rival Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (sales down 14%) at No. 7 (from No. 3), while Final Fantasy XIII (sales up 90% thanks to price promotions) moves up the chart to No. 8 this week from No. 14.
Rounding out the Top Ten, Wii Fit Plus slips to No. 9 from No. 4 last week, and Wii Sports Resort hangs in there at No. 10, down from No. 7.
