Most probably in an effort to assure shareholders (and fans) that Nintendo’s games and platforms are still a force to be reckoned with in the market, the publisher revealed some impressive sales rankings during its recent financial results briefing given to investors.
In both Europe and the US for the first 12 to 15 weeks of 2010, sales of Nintendo’s games, and games on Nintendo’s platforms, have been mighty - in a list of top selling games comprising 30 titles, Nintendo platform-exclusive titles make up 13 spots on the European sales list, and 14 on the US list.
The usual suspects show up at the top, with New Super Mario Bros. Wii making a good showing in both regions, but there’s no set pattern for the rest of Nintendo’s ‘evergreen’ titles, although they’re all present and accounted for.
It’s interesting to note the vast differences in taste that gamers in Europe and the US possess, not only in terms of the kinds of games they play, but the platform on which they play them – for example, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for the PS3 shows up at No. 6 on the European sales rank, but the Xbox 360 version shows up at No. 4 on the US listing.
