Gilbert leaves Hothead Games, DeathSpank completed

EA and Hothead Games are set to publish the latest game from Ron Gilbert, the popular creator of The Secret of Monkey Island. Gilbert joined Hothead Games as Creative Director in 2008 to begin work on the adventure RPG DeathSpank.

Now Gilbert has left Hothead Games because development on the new title has been wrapped up. In a post on his personal blog Gilbert wrote:

“I wanted to let all the Premium Gold Level Grumpy Gamer subscribers know that I left Hothead. When I started working there two years ago, my goal was to make DeathSpank the most awesome game ever made and have it win a Nobel Prize and the early word out of Stockholm is that DeathSpank is neck-in-neck with some string theory dweeb (eleven dimensions my a**).”

Gilbert went on to confirm that DeathSpank has left both the creative and production phase and will now begin “that long and winding road of certification and testing of the Xbox and PS3 and [REDACTED] versions, it’s looking quite amazing and is damn funny. So, to quote my childhood hero George W. Bush: Mission Accomplished.”

Gilbert will continue to work closely with EA and Hothead to promote DeathSpank, which will be coming to Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network sometime this year. The game sees players assuming the role of DeathSpank, described as “the Hero to the Downtrodden, a Vanquisher of Evil and Defender of Justice.” Check out El33tonline’s previous coverage for a hilarious trailer and more information about the game.
