In another case of ‘no smoke without fire’ in the videogame industry, the rumour has become fact as Nintendo confirms the release delays for Metroid: Other M and Sin & Punishment: Star Successor in the US, with new projected release dates announced for the pair.
While this delay will most likely affect the release date of Sin & Punishment in Europe (where it will be known as Successor of the Skies, and is/was due for a May 7th release), no prior release date had yet been announced for Metroid: Other M in the region, so technically it hasn’t been delayed outside of North America.
Metroid: Other M is now slated to release in the US on August 31st – two months after its previously named date of June 27th.
Sin & Punishment: Star Successor is now expected to release on June 27th – the game was originally meant to release on June 6th.
Nintendo provided a comment addressing the delays to consumer weblog Kotaku, which went a little something like this:
“The launch date for Metroid: Other M has shifted to Aug. 31. As you may know, this game is the product of a unique partnership between longtime Metroid producer Yoshio Sakamoto, Team Ninja and many other individuals and groups, all of whom have set very high standards for this latest installment in the series. Although it’s taking slightly longer than expected to complete the project, we’re confident that fans will find it to be well worth the wait.
“Video game development is a lengthy and complex process. We have always put the quality of our products first, and have historically taken the time needed to make our games meet the expectations of our fans.”
