Media Create Hardware Sales for week ending 28 Feb: Wii closes the gap on PSP

The PSP still rules the roost on the Japanese hardware chart, but the Wii is sneaking closer every week.

The latest Media Create figures show that the PSP sold 37 338 units for the week ending the 28th of February while the Wii sold only marginally less, 36 241 units. The PSP gets a sales bump this week, up roughly 4 500 units from last week, while the Wii also climbs up approximately 4 500 from last week.

The PS3 falls back to third place with 27 763 units, sales dropping quite substantially from last week’s 32 130. Meanwhile the Nintendo DS continues to sell well in all its variations, reaching a combined total of 45 220 units. The DSi LL sells 24 605, the DSi 15 586 and the DS Lite 5 029 units in comparison to last week’s totals of 24 388, 15 380 and 5 053.

The Xbox 360 moves 2 510 units this week (down from last week’s 2 453 tally) while the PS2 limps along with 1 912 and the PSP go with 1 296 (after selling 1 883 and 1 371 last week).
