Currently hard at work on Dead Space 2, developers at Visceral Games are very well aware that the demo for the original Dead Space wasn’t all that great. In fact, they know it stinks.
With Dead Space 2, however, they’re pushing the game to new heights and in different directions, and are intent on letting gamers know ahead of time what they can expect from the game once it releases early next year. The best way to do that?
Release an awesome demo, of course!
Speaking to G4TV, Visceral Games executive producer Steve Papoutsis said, speaking with regards to a demo for Dead Space 2:
“One of the things that we did ourselves a disservice on the original game…a lot of people played it and our demo was not received as the super awesomest thing ever. Last time, I just heard a lot of comments like ‘The demo was way too hard,’ or ‘It kind of came out after the fact.’
“That’s one thing, again, we want to make sure this time out we deliver a demo that lets people understand the flavor and experience that’s at the heart of the Dead Space universe,” Papoutsis continued. “We’re really gonna focus on what’s really good, so that new people get a chance to experience and see what it’s really about.”
“We’re really putting an emphasis on making sure that we have something there so that new people can check it out. There’s a lot of people that seem interested and we just want to give them an opportunity to check it out and get into it.”
You should definitely read the full interview with the Visceral Games developers over at G4, as they discuss a whole bunch of interesting topics related to Dead Space 2, including (but not limited to) the fact that the game won’t be abandoning its horror roots in favour of a more action-oriented experience, as originally feared.
