MTV Games, Harmonix and Experience Hendrix have announced that tracks from the second album of legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix will become available on Rock Band next week, on March 30th, including the newly “unearthed” single, ‘Valleys of Neptune,’ from the new disc of the same name.
Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, CEO of Experience Hendrix, Janie Hendrix, praised Rock Band for its innovation in music discovery:
“Much like Jimi’s music, we feel that Rock Band represents an amazing, innovative medium for music discovery and interaction that can have a profound affect on those who experience it.
“We are extremely pleased to be able to have Jimi Hendrix’s genius musical legacy continue to live on and touch people the world over through Rock Band.”
MTV Games also has an agreement in place that may just result in a standalone version of a Jimi Hendrix Rock Band game, in the same style as The Beatles: Rock Band and Green Day: Rock Band, but the company is currently focussed on delivering downloadable content (DLC) that Rock Band fans have been asking for.
“Hendrix’s music is something that our fans and supporters have been clamoring for on the Rock Band platform,” said MTV Games’ Paul DeGooyer.
Jimi Hendrix’s entire second album, Axis: Bold as Love (with the exception of ‘EXP,’ but the inclusion of ‘Valleys of Neptune’), will be released as DLC on March 30th on Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii, and on PlayStation 3 on April 1st. Check out the full list of songs below:
