While it was a foregone conclusion that Mass Effect 3 is planned, as Bioware has said from the start that the series was mapped out as a trilogy, confirmation that the third entry to the franchise is currently in development has arrived in the standard fashion that these types of ‘announcements’ usually do nowadays – via Twitter.
Posting an update on her Twitter account, Bioware’s Christina Norman tweeted:
“ME3 Trivia: Today I started work on “Project Wombat” for Mass Effect 3.”
Fascinating, I’m sure, but what does “Project Wombat” really mean?
Well, apparently the word ‘wombat’ has nothing to do with the project that bares its name, so there aren’t any clues to derive from the animal’s traits, as Norman clears things up with another tweet:
“Wow a lot of speculation on what Project Wombat is. Sorry I can’t say! I can say the name has nothing to do with the project.”
Is the announcement of Mass Effect 3 the big ‘something’ that Bioware plans to reveal on Monday, by way of the countdown clock pasted across all of its websites? Personally, I doubt it, so we’ll have to let speculation on that particular mystery percolate just a little longer.
