Eidos Montreal has dropped a teaser trailer for the studio’s upcoming Deus Ex 3, revealing that we as mere humans are but a steppingstone towards the next stage of evolution, and that in the next entry to the venerable first-person RPG franchise, we’ll once again gain access to all kinds of organic implants and improvements to make ourselves… better… stronger… faster.
A new piece of information coming out of GDC this year is that Deus Ex won’t feature multiplayer of any kind, as the game’s director Jean-Francois Dugas says:
“No, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a single-player game only. Being the first project out of the new Eidos Montréal studio, and staying true to the Deus Ex legacy, the development team wanted to focus purely on the single-player experience to ensure we delivered on that front.”
Dugas went on to say how the development team is using the first Deus Ex game as a reference point for the third game, and is taking its cues from that title:
“Deus Ex: Human Revolution uses the first Deus Ex game, which perfectly married the first-person shooter and roleplaying game, as its reference point, so you can expect an experience similar to it,” says Dugas.
“The goal is to deliver the perfect mix of both genres, giving players the option of choosing to play the game depending on their preferred play style. The game is built around a multi-path, multi-solution approach so you often have more than one way to pass an obstacle, and within that you have tonnes of options for character and weapon customization.”
Additionally, Deus Ex 3 art director Jonathan Jacques-Belletete has commented that the game won’t be going for a heavily photorealistic look and feel, saying:
“We’re not trying to make it super-photorealistic,” he said. “It’s more about making it credible, not like making it a simulation. Games that have realistic characters, you talk to them and they might stand in front of some low-fi poly.”
Instead, Jacques-Belletete points to a new goal:
“Let’s try to illustrate the world instead of trying to simulate it and make it more even through the world. We tried a lot of things and it just didn’t work. I’m not kidding, we really had friction on the team because of that, because of that vision.”
Interesting…

Whoooot! Looking awesome! As long as it has loads of atmosphere, this WILL, rock.
Agreed, although I actually quite enjoyed the second Deus Ex (which most fans didn't), so maybe I'm not the one to talk to about that...
