Jonathan Blow, creator and prime developer on 2008’s puzzle platform game Braid, recently started a development blog for his next new game The Witness, and released a few pieces of concept art from the game to clue us in a little further as to what it might all be about, in addition to some concept test renders to show off a combination of interesting lighting technology solutions.

First up, you can have a look through some of the wonderful looking concept art for The Witness, created by artist Eric Urquhart who, according to Jonathan Blow, has been working on the game for quite some time now. Have a gander:

Now, have a look at some of the abovementioned test renders (the key word here being test), as Blow and co. show off some of the early lighting solutions they intend using in the finished game (which Blow says should be complete by the end of 2011, so we still have some ways to go).

First, a warning direct from Blow himself:

“Note: In the images below, all geometry and textures are placeholders. As with Braid, we are using rough-draft versions of all these things while the core gameplay is built.

“Bloggers, these are not to be considered screenshots of the game. They aren’t supposed to look good yet — they are just supposed to show the precomputed lighting.”
