The PSP manages to stay ahead of the competition on the Japanese hardware chart. The latest Media Create figures show that Sony’s handheld sold 47 875 units for the week ending the 31st of January, dropping quite substantially from last week’s 52 909.

The Wii continues to nip at its heels with 42 309 units, down roughly 3 000 units from last week. The DSi LL overtakes the PS3, moving into third place with 34 863 units. The latest iteration of the Nintendo DS handheld receives a boost (up 10 804 units from last week) thanks to Dragon Quest VI: Realms of the Reverie which debuted at number 1 on the software chart with 906 000 copies.

The PS3 follows with 34 431 units, sales also boosted quite substantially (up 7465 units from last week) thanks to the debut of three PS3 titles in the Top 10 this week. Resonance of Fate was new at number 2 with 118 000 copies, Ar tonelico III at number 4 with 82 000 copies and MAG at number 10 with 19 000 copies.

The DSi sold 24 783 units and the DS Lite 6 811, both up from last week’s tally of 20 373 and 4 966 units respectively. The Xbox 360 is next with 4 089 units, up roughly 800 units from last week despite Resonance of Fate debuting at number 8 with 27 000 copies. The PS2 follows with 2 182 and the PSP go with 1 645.
