During the nine months ending December 31st 2009, Nintendo saw profits fall 9.4%, despite what the company called a “robust” holiday season, and noted that its holiday sales “exceeded last year.”
Over this nine month period, which saw the worldwide launch of the DSi, the Japanese launch of the DSiLL, the release of many key Wii and DS titles, and the infamous Wii price cuts, Nintendo reported profits of ¥192.6 billion (or $2.1 billion), while net sales declined to the tune of 23.1%, dropping to ¥1,182.1 billion (or $13.09 billion).
This period also saw 23.35 million DS units being sold, which is down 2 million units year on year, while 17.05 million Wii units were sold, which is down 3 million units year on year. Nintendo also revealed individual unit sales for a number of its games, three of which managed to sell over 10 million units during the nine months.
Nintendo maintains that its current fiscal year ending March 31st will result in a net profit of ¥230 billion (or $2.55 billion), as its forecast remains unchanged.
