During Nintendo’s media summit in San Francisco yesterday, the publisher confirmed that their larder, more feature-rich handheld, the DSi XL, will be releasing in North America at the end of March for the price of $189.99, complete with pre-installed software.
The official release date for the DSi XL (also known as the DSi LL in Japan, which released there last year) in North America is March 28th, and will include both the larger ‘pen-like stylus’ as well as the smaller, original stylus, while the hardware itself sports a 93 percent larger screen and a wider viewing angle compared to older models of Nintendo’s DS.
The expected pre-installed software packaged with the DSi XL in North America will be Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters, Brain Age Express: Math and Photo Clock, and Nintendo DSi Browser and Flipnote Studio applications. The handheld will initially be available in burgundy and bronze colour schemes.
As an aside, the DSi XL is scheduled to release in the UK on March 5th, which is uncharacteristically early compared to a console debut in the US.
For a better look at the DSi XL, as well as some stats and figures, you can watch two recently released videos from the Nintendo Summit below detailing the handheld:

Comments:
I really don't understand their point. But I guess it gives them one more product to market. I was hoping for some improvements on the hardware, but from the looks of it, there isn't.
After watching the first video, it seems DSi XL was designed to appeal to an older audience that appreciates the larger stylus and extra touchscreen space for less agile fingers and easier reading. Having said that, I'm sure this hand-held gaming console will be compared to iPad though it's still in smaller scale both in physical size and functionality.
