Kitase reiterates improbability of Final Fantasy VII remake, doesn’t rule it out

Final Fantasy VII LogoFinal Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase has once again gone on record as saying that a remake of the fan favourite Final Fantasy VII is highly improbable, due to a variety of problems related to the difficulty of reproducing the title in high definition quality and the length of time such a project would need to be completed.

Kitase lamented:

“If we were to recreate Final Fantasy VII with the same level of graphical detail as you see in Final Fantasy XIII, we’d imagine that that would take as much as three or four times longer than the three and a half years it has taken to put this Final Fantasy together, so it’s looking pretty unrealistic!”

Kitase continued: “If it were possible that we had all the right facilities and the right environment to be able to make and prepare a Final Fantasy VII remake within a year, we’d very much like a go at it.”

Final Fantasy VIIThe main problem, according to previous statements by Kitase, would be the recreation of Final Fantasy VII’s myriad of outlying towns and cities in high definition, next generation glory – settings that are missing in Final Fantasy XIII due to the very problem of the time necessary to create them in intricate detail.

We can still dream, though, and perhaps one day we’ll see Cloud, Tifa, Aeris and the rest of the gang on a next generation (or next-next generation) console, but right now, Square Enix doesn’t have the time.

For the time being, we can look forward to Final Fantasy XIII, which releases worldwide on March 9th.
