Oh, what’s this? The third expansion pack for the massively popular massively multiplayer online RPG, World of Warcraft, has only just been unleashed around the world, and members of Blizzard are ready to discuss the fourth set of content?
I hope you enjoy your stay in Azeroth and Outland, WoW players - it seems as though you’ll be living there for even longer than you originally thought possible, with the potential for an entirely new continent to be added to the game…
Speaking to CVG ahead of the launch of the just-released World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Blizzard’s lead systems designer Greg street said:
“I think the next expansion will be something more like a new continent approach. More like the Burning Crusade or Nothrend, where we send players somewhere new that they haven’t seen before.
“I think the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor are good now, we won’t have to mess with them,” Street continued. “There might be some small areas that may require polish or changing if things still don’t feel quite right. On the other hand we have this weird story now where you almost go back in time when you hit the Burning Crusade and Lich King content. We’re going to have to do something to bring that up to speed.”
“You’re hearing all about Deathwing and all the destruction,” explained Street, “and then you leave Azeroth and go to Outland and they’re talking about Illidin. That’s a little bit of a non-sequitur, particularly for new players. We need to make that whole story a little smoother.”
If you’re worried about whether or not plans for a fourth World of Warcraft expansion will in any way affect the release of Cataclysm, fear not, as Street assures players that the development team is going to be diligently working on improvements and bug fixing following the launch of the game.
