Square Enix has just announced the existence of a brand new Tomb Raider game, currently in development at franchise stewards Crystal Dynamics.
The new Tomb Raider title, previously rumoured to be a reboot of the series, finds franchise-long hero Lara Croft embarking on her very first adventure after a storm destroys the boat she was travelling on, and leaves her stranded on an unknown beach in an unknown part of the world.
Much unlike the Lara Croft we know now, this new adventure will see her as a “frightened young woman,” left on her own to survive in a brutal new world against unknown challenges… and enemies:
“Here begins the first adventure for a young and inexperienced Lara Croft,” reads the press release, “in a story which charts the journey of an ordinary woman who finds out just how far she must go in order to stay alive.”
Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics Darrell Gallagher enthused about the new project:
“Forget everything you knew about Tomb Raider. This is an origins story that creates Lara Croft and takes her on a character defining journey like no other.”
Tomb Raider will be uncovered over ten pages of this month’s Game Informer, where we’ll be able to learn more about this new, original and exciting outing for Lara Croft.
