The fearless poltergeist-destroying, PKE Meter-reading squad of Ghostbusters are set to return to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in mid-2011, when Atari, Sony and Wanako’s Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime releases as a downloadable title over the platforms’ respective methods of digital distribution.
The new Ghostbusters game was revealed in a feature on USA Today, and will allow players to step into the slime-encrusted boots of ‘The Rookie,’ who was first introduced to videogame audiences in 2009’s million-selling title Ghostbusters: The Video Game.
None of the original voice actors (Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd et al) are scheduled to be present in Sanctum of Slime, but authentic ghost-busting action is promised as four players will be able to participate online and locally to take on colossal boss enemies using Proton Packs and other faux Ghosbuster technologies.
As the USA Today article notes, a ride in the Ghostbuster’s Ecto-3 (their only mode of transportation) will also feature in Sanctum of Slime.
Look forward to more news on this top-down downloadable shooter in the near future, and look over the released screenshots to get an idea of Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime’s visuals.
