Activision and Treyarch’s mega-blockbuster first-person shooter, Call of Duty: Black Ops, is launching tonight at midnight around the world.
Perhaps you’ve heard of this game before? Set during the Cold War period with jaunts in the Vietnam War? Superb cinematic presentation and insane action sequences? Extensive and excessive multiplayer features?
Yes, that Call of Duty: Black Ops.
In recognition of the game’s massive appeal, videogame retail giant GameStop is set to provide Black Ops with a fantastic platform for success by hosting the most midnight launch locations for a game ever.
Tonight at midnight, a total of 4 400 GameStop stores (of the worldwide 6 500 stores) will be open to sell Call of Duty: Black Ops to the masses of gamers who have by now been whipped into a frenzy in anticipation for what people are calling ‘the biggest game of the year.’
People like this guy: SVP of merchandising for GameStop, Bob McKenzie, said of Black Ops and the impending launch:
“We anticipate Call of Duty: Black Ops will not only be the biggest video game event of the year, but the biggest launch in GameStop’s history.”
The GameStop midnight launch festivities will begin at 9:30 PM today (November 8th) across the US, before the game goes on sale proper a mere second into the official release date of November 9th.
Additionally, major South African videogame retailer BT Games is also hosting midnight launches at several of its stores, namely:
- East Rand Mall
- Fourways
- Menlyn
- Cavendish
- Tyger Valley
- Canal Walk
- Pavilion
