Unit sales for EA’s top games revealed, NBA Elite 11 cancelled

Electronic Arts Logo During a recent investor call announcing the company’s second quarter financial results, EA revealed units sales results for a handful of its top games, while also announcing that development of the troubled basketball game, NBA Elite 11, has been terminated.

First, the good news: Since the game’s release in October, EA’s Medal of Honor has sold 2 million units, while FIFA 11 has managed to sell a monstrous 8 million units since its launch at the end of September.

Life to date sales numbers for the entire FIFA series? 100 million units worldwide.

In addition, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has sold a massive 6 million units since that game’s launch in March this year, more than doubling what the original Bad Company game managed to sell through.

In sad news, EA has announced that NBA Elite 11 has been cancelled, while future development of the NBA Elite franchise will be handled by EA Tiburon, one of EA’s mainstay sports development houses.

NBA Elite 11 was originally meant to release this year, but was delayed in September with the intention of adding much needed ‘polish.’ The Xbox 360 and PS3 version of NBA Elite 11 were to ship with a copy of NBA Jam for those consoles, but with the title’s delay, Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of NBA Jam will now release separately as a standalone retail product.
