The last time Xbox frontman Major Nelson released an Xbox LIVE Activity Chart, Bungie’s Halo: Reach has just taken the top spot on the ranking to become the most played game on Xbox LIVE.
Since then, the good Major has been incredibly busy, what with promoting the launch of Xbox 360 Kinect and all, so we haven’t really got any updates on the shape of global Xbox LIVE activity for a while now.
That’s about to change.
While Halo: Reach was the top, most active game on Xbox LIVE way back during the week of September 20th, Microsoft and Bungie’s first-person shooter has since been usurped, not only by that game’s previous rival, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but Activision and Treyarch’s latest blockbuster, Call of Duty: Black Ops as well.
How is this possible? Let’s take a look at the numbers released by Activision proper (and sent out by Major Nelson):
Over 5.9 million multiplayer hours were recorded on Xbox LIVE for Call of Duty: Black Ops by the end of the game’s launch day on November 9th, while more than 2.6 million unique gaming IDs were recorded playing Black Ops on that same day.
According to Major Nelson, these are both new records for the Xbox LIVE service, and they’re records that won’t be broken again for a long time. Highly impressive, but that unfortunately shuts out Halo: Reach’s chances of a comeback.
But what about the rest of the chart?
