Atari is bringing its classic arcade shooter, Yars’ Revenge, back in early 2011. The best-selling Atari 2600 game will be coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade, the PlayStation Network and PC in Quarter 1 next year, with Killspace Entertainment handling development duties.
Yars’ Revenge will feature “local co-op gamplay, multiple endings, intense battles and visually striking landscapes designed to appeal to both casual and hardcore gamers.” It will also include an “anime inspired art style and captivating narrative that expands upon the original story.”
The game sees players stepping into the role of a nameless Yar who has had the misfortune of being brainwashed by the evil Qotile empire. However, after being shot down and rescued by the Bar Yargler she sets off to exact revenge upon her former master and his squad of assassins.
“Yars’ Revenge is one of the most popular Atari games of all time, leaving fans eager to experience the next chapter,” says Jim Wilson, President and CEO of Atari, Inc. “The new Yars’ Revenge updates this classic with anime inspired art direction, intense aerial battles and local co-op gameplay.”
