During a recent investor call, Ubisoft announced that both Driver: San Francisco and Ghost Recon: Future Soldier have been delayed from their previously held release windows of the first quarter of 2011, into fiscal 2012.
As a result, neither game will see a release before March 2011, and may even be pushed back into the end of year holiday season.
This move has been announced as a result of studio restructuring at Ubisoft, as well as the company’s desire to deliver games of the highest quality possible in order to compete in the marketplace – something that requires increasing amounts of time and money to accomplish.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot commented on the delays saying that the company wishes to take the time necessary to create “an outstanding game,” and while referring to Driver, he stated: “Seeing the competition, it’s very important to bring all the fine touches to the game so that it can become a good racing game that helps us to establish Ubisoft in the racing genre.”
With regards to restructuring plans, it was revealed that at least one project within Ubisoft has been cancelled to allow development staff to go on to support the creation of another, larger project elsewhere within the publisher.
During the investor call, Ubisoft also revealed that both HAWX 2 and RUSE had underperformed, but future sales outlook is good with the upcoming releases of titles like Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Raving Rabbids Travel In Time, Your Shape: Fitness Evolved, Michael Jackson: The Experience, and more Just Dance titles.
