I recently visited New York City and, being the avid gamer that I am, a trip to Nintendo World was obviously at the top of my ‘To do’ list. Luckily for me the shop re-opened on the 1st of November after being closed for remodeling. It’s located in the Rockefeller Plaza so it’s a beautiful location and I’m sure it gets a lot of foot traffic, especially during holiday season, it was even busy on the day I went with loads of T-shirts and plush toys finding loving Nintendo homes.

Obviously being able to choose from a wide range of T-shirts, plush toys, caps, mugs, chess sets, figurines and more is a Nintendo fans dream come true and I left with a shopping bag full of awesome goodies. But they also have a wicked cool Nintendo display, with a shirt signed by Charles Martinet, who I was lucky enough to meet earlier in the year incidentally, along with a poster signed by Mr Miyamoto himself, someone who I hope to meet one day!

They also have a large display of all the older Nintendo consoles, along with the different iterations of the Nintendo DS as well as the red Wii. Of course you can also get some hands-on time with the latest Wii games like Kirby’s Epic Yarn and new DS games too. In fact the lower level of the shop is entirely devoted to Pokemon, no surprise given the popularity of the brand across the world and the fact that this used to be one of only two Pokemon Center’s in the world, the other being in Tokyo.

The steps leading up to the second floor show how Mario has progressed over the past 25 years and the window display is also devoted to the famous plumber with proud 25 year anniversary posters up. Of course you can’t miss the Mushroom Kingdom cast displayed above the elevator either. The shop also boasts original T-shirts designed by an employee which are only available in this store. I’m happy to report that all of the staff are very friendly and, most importantly, avid Nintendo fans!

So if you’re ever in New York City, make sure you put a visit to Nintendo World on your list, right next to the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Broadway and Times Square. It’s well worth a visit, but just one word of warning, make sure you fill your wallet with cash before you go, after all this is the only Nintendo World in the, well, world!
