According to internal sales data, EA has revealed that FIFA 11 managed to sell an incredible 2.6 million units during the game’s recent launch week in North America, Europe and the UK. Additionally, EA’s latest football/soccer sim has generated $150 million.
FIFA 11 only recently released around the world (on September 28th in North America and October 1st in the UK and Europe), and according to EA, October 1st to the 2nd was the busiest time for any EA Sports game in terms of online play, while sell-through of the title is up 29 percent over FIFA 10.
Additionally, more than 18.6 million online EA Sports game sessions were recorded, with FIFA 11 contributing 11.3 million of those sessions over this two day period. Head of EA Sports, Peter Moore enthused:
“This is a landmark achievement for EA Sports – we’ve shattered sales records at retail, critics are praising FIFA 11 as being one of the most authentic and innovative titles ever, and fans are connecting and competing with other gamers around the world and have logged a record number of online connected game sessions.”
EA also announced and confirmed that FIFA Ultimate Team Mode will see a new iteration for FIFA 11 this year, and will be released as a free download in November. Moore continued:
“We’re thrilled at how fans embraced FIFA 11 last weekend, and we are excited to be able to offer one of our most popular game modes – FIFA 11 Ultimate Team – for free this November.”
